Servicing rear brakes - all models, including ceramic brakes
Rear brakes with automatic adjustment
       
1 -  Self-locking bolt (Torx 30), tightening torque 12 Nm
2 -  Actuator motor for electronic parking brake and handbrake
    Removing and installing control unit for electronic parking brake and handbrake → Chapter
    Removing and installing actuator motor → Chapter
3 -  Seal
    Always renew
4 -  Self-locking bolt, 35 Nm
    Always renew
    When loosening and tightening, counter-hold on guide pin
5 -  Spacer bracket
6 -  Brake hose
    To brake caliper, tightening torque 12 Nm
    Do not disconnect brake line when changing brake pads
    Make sure that the locking lugs are fitted properly in the bracket
    Do not twist hose when installing
7 -  Brake caliper housing
    Do not disconnect brake hose when changing brake pads
    Servicing brake caliper → Chapter
    The brake carrier can be mounted together with the brake caliper
8 -  Brake carrier with guide pins and protective caps
    Replacement carriers are supplied assembled and with sufficient grease on guide pins
    If protective caps or guide pins are damaged, renew using repair kit. Use grease sachet supplied to lubricate guide pins.

9 -  Brake pads
    Wear limit → Chapter
    Always renew on both sides of axle
    Removing and installing → Chapter
    Checking pad thickness: → Booklet405
    The brake carrier can be mounted together with the brake caliper
10 -  Pad retainer
    Always renew when changing pads
11 -  Wheel bolts
    Fitting wheels → Wheels and tyres; Rep. Gr.44
12 -  Cross-head screw
   Tightening torque: 5 Nm
13 -  Brake disc
   Wear limit → Chapter
   Always renew on both sides of axle
   On vehicles with a 16" brake system, the brake carrier must be removed prior to removing the brake discs
   Detach brake caliper prior to removing
   Allocation of brake discs → Chapter
14 -  Hexagon bolts, 10 Nm
15 -  Splash plate for brakes
16 -  Ribbed bolts
M 12 x 1.5 x 60
 Always renew
For bottom bolt: set torque wrench -V.A.G 1332- to 115 Nm to tighten the bottom bolt. This tightening torque only applies when using interchangeable head -T40065- on the left side and interchangeable head -T40066- on the right side.
17 -  Ribbed bolts
 M 12 x 1.5 x 60
 Always renew
 Tightening torque for top bolt: 140 Nm
